5 Tips to staying sane during the gifting seasons!
Happy Holidays everyone! I hope everyone has an AMAZING holiday season! This year is special for me, because the main thing I tend to focus on during the holidays is the awesome food. Luckily this year I’ve had a change of heart and went from being Mrs. Grinch to Mrs. Clause! This year I wanted to do everything such as going to see the lights, baking Christmas cookies, and getting people gifts. Every year until now I have never been filled with holiday cheer, because I only saw so many negative aspects of the holidays instead of focusing on the positives. Typically I didn’t enjoy giving people gifts because 1. Gifts can be quite expensive and you never know if they're going to like what you give bc it's all you can afford, 2. I am the most amazing gift anyone can ever ask for! Thankfully I now realized you can show your appreciation for a person through a gift, a hug, or just a simple note to let them know how you feel.
That being said, if you’re struggling during the holiday season to keep yourself in high spirits, here are some tips to keep you afloat!
Tip #1 - Do Some Self Care
If you are someone who gets anxiety during the holiday season, do some self care. Self care can show up in so many forms, such as running yourself a nice warm bath, cooking yourself a meal, or just doing some basic things we can unintentionally neglect. I know before I put more effort into my morning routine, I just felt kind of blah in my day to day life. After I took the time out and started to make myself breakfast, take a warm shower, moisturize and put on my perfume, I actually started my day in a much better mood and I felt incredibly confident in myself! Doing this helped me to conquer my day to day life and allowed me to see the world differently. SO, if you get anxiety, take a chill pill and take care of yourself, because if you’re not taken care of, who else will be?
Tip #2 - Create a Holiday Budget
Creating an overall budget of your finances during the holiday season can help you to prepare for what you can and cannot afford. Therefore you can start to save or stretch out your budget over a few checks instead of one, and when payday comes you know how you are able to spend your money during this time.
"The holidays are a wonderful time, but they can quickly become overwhelming if you neglect to plan ahead." – Dr. Daisy Sutherland
Tip #3 - Make a List
Write a list of all the people you want to get a gift for the holidays and set an individual budget for each person. This helps me to think about gift ideas for the people on my list. My ideal budget per person is up to $25. Maybe $35 if that person really made my year!
Tip #4 - Get Creative
A lot of times people believe that when it comes to the holiday season, you have to buy something for a gift to be “valuable,” but that isn't always the case.
Majority of the time making something straight from the heart is more important and sentimental than going out and buying a gift. So head out to your local five below, dollar tree, or dollar general and pick things out to get creative! (For a special someone’s birthday, I made a movie bucket, a food tray, and an on the go hygiene bag for just $30!)
Tip #5 - Be Honest
Last but not least, if you don’t have the funds or the time, just be honest and tell your family/friends it may not happen this year, or it may not happen on Christmas day! That is okay, there's no need to put yourself in debt or in stress over the holidays. A lot of times you can do with just a grand experience like going to a park to vibe, or just dancing in your living room!
